Kelpies and Falkirk Wheel Visit

At last the day arrived for our planned visit to see the Falkirk Wheel and the mystical Kelpies! We got to Falkirk in good time to see the world’s only rotating boat lift. There was time for a quick whizz round the Visitor Centre and then on to the boat trip up over the 35 metre – tall Falkirk Wheel. Commentary containing a lot of technical facts was given in such a way that we could understand it and the views were stunning.

After a soup and sandwich lunch, we were off to see the Kelpies designed by Andy Scott. Andy, one of the guides, told us about the history and showed some of us the amazing open space inside one of the Kelpies and what the construction looks like from the inside.

Both the Falkirk Wheel and the Kelpies are well worth a visit and a big thank you must go to Vanessa and Carol who did all the behind- the- scenes organising and to Mike Lawton, who as well as sorting out all the money matters on the day helped out with all the practical issues along the way.
