Whether you like, history, architecture, the watercolour paintings of JMW Turner, the 20th century art of the St Ives artists, the works of Arthur Ransome, (at the Museum of Lakeland Life and Industry) or the tapestries depicting the lives of Quakers or even shopping in an ancient town and a modern Shopping Village – Kendal has it all.

On behalf of Stewartry U3A, Vanessa Enos is planning a coach trip to Kendal on Monday 7th September to spend the day there and do whatever you would like to do. There will be the opportunity to go to Abbot Hall Gallery to see an exhibition of paintings from St Ives and some of the paintings from the permanent collection. A local artist, Jeremy Carlisle, has agreed to come with us and talk about the Turner painting from the permanent collection and paintings in the exhibition.

The Museum of Lakeland Life and Industry is next to the gallery and the beautiful Kendal Parish Church is beside the Museum.

The Meeting House Exhibition Centre and Cafe, home of the award winning Quaker Tapestry, is close to the main shopping centre and Helen Keating is going to provide us with some information about the tapestry and background history.

The coach will leave Castle Douglas Market Hill Car Park at 08.30 am and return at about 6.30 pm. The cost for the coach only will be £20 and group rates will apply at Abbot Hall as long as there are 10 or more people in the group

If you are interested in going to Kendal please let Vanessa know via the “Contact Us” on our web.
