Welcome to this update. Just to let you know that you are allowed to bring a guest on these trips for up to 2 trips per year (per guest).

Helen Henderson is also looking for people to help organise some of these trips, mainly to help organise the venues and assist at the venues (she can’t go on ALL the trips!).  Please do help, so we can continue organising these trips for our members.

Details of proposed trips:

Friday 19th January 2018 – Turner Exhibition, National Galleries, Edinburgh

Sir Henry Vaughan, the London art collector who bequeathed the Turner watercolours, stipulated that these delicate watercolours should be ‘exhibited to the public all at one time, free of charge, during the month of January’, to limit their exposure to strong daylight. This is a wonderful opportunity to see them.

There is also a major exhibition of Scottish Modern Art 1900-1950 which will reveal the remarkable yet relatively unknown response of Scottish artists to the development of modern art in the first half of the 20th Century. More than 100 paintings, sculptures and works on paper by over 50 artists, drawn from private and public collections from throughout the UK. This costs an additional £10 for those who wish to visit, tickets should be available on the day.

Travel cost: about £16. Entry to the main gallery is free.

Monday 4th December – A duplicate trip to Edinburgh (Christmas Market, Museums)

The bus will leave Kirkcudbright at 8am, Castle Douglas at 8.15am and Dalbeattie at 8.30am. A refreshment stop is planned on route.

There will be about 7 hours available in Edinburgh, allowing time to visit shops, museums, the Christmas Market and lights. Departure from Edinburgh will be at 6.30 pm giving time for a meal before travelling home.

Thursday 30th November – Edinburgh (Christmas Market, Museums)

A full day in Edinburgh to facilitate visiting the shops/museums, Christmas Market and seeing the Christmas Lights. There will be about 7 hours in Edinburgh and will allow people to eat before re-boarding the vehicle. The cost of the bus is £15.

This event is now fully booked.
