We are planning a visit to the Palace of Holyroodhouse and The Queens Gallery on Tuesday, 15th March 2016 which will include a guided tour of the Palace and The Queen’s Gallery.

The Palace of Holyroodhouse is The Queen’s official residence in Scotland. It stands at the end of Edinburgh’s Royal Mile against the spectacular backdrop of Arthur’s Seat and is closely associated with Scotland’s rich history. The tour takes 1.5 hours and includes the State Apartments and Mary Queen of Scots’ Chambers

At The Queen’s Gallery , 29 masterpieces from the Royal Collection will be viewed and the exhibition includes works by Gerrit Dou, Gabriel Metsu, Jan Steen and Pieter de Hooch, and Johannes Vermeer’s A Lady at the Virginal with a Gentleman, ‘The Music Lesson’.

We will leave Kirkcudbright Harbour Square at 8.00, and Castle Douglas Market Hill Car Park (King Street entrance) at 8.20. We will return at about 6.00 and 6.30. The cost for the coach is £18 and the combined entrance fee for the Palace and the Queens Gallery is £9.90. There is a nice café in the courtyard for lunch.
